WHAT MY STUDENTS HAVE BEEN LEARNING...
The kids have enjoyed learning about the life and art of Vincent Van Gogh, and though I teach the kids about not copying artwork, they learned that Van Gogh's images are in the public domain. Each grade level had a different Van Gogh painting to recreate in their own styles.
Before that they learned how to create movement in artwork by drawing "noodles," and shading those noodles with light and shadow to create a more 3-D effect.
The Fruit Still Life with Zentangle was all about creating Emphasis in artwork. Creating a colorful bowl of fruit on a black and white background definitely puts Emphasis on the bowl of Fruit!
All lessons are centered around learning how to use the Elements of Art and the Principles of Design. The Elements of Art are: LINE, SPACE, SHAPE, FORM, COLOR, VALUE, AND TEXTURE!
The Principles of Design are: BALANCE, UNITY, RHYTHM, PATTERN, MOVEMENT, CONTRAST, EMPHASIS, DOMINANCE, AND PROPORTION!

Youth Art Month is a national celebration of the visual arts. Each year, the Grace Museum hosts this art exhibition of approximately 1000 students from all over Region 14 service area.
Each student with a work of art on exhibit will get a FREE pass to get themselves and their family into the museum for free. Anyone can attend with regular admission fees!
We invite the public to attend in person on Saturdays until March 18th during their Saturday hours.
