Texas Leadership of Abilene Elementary Campus welcomes military families who have been transferred to or at permanent party at Dyess Air Force Base! As a public charter school
(PK-12), any parent or guardian who serves the armed forces of the United States, or are part of the reserve armed forces can enroll children at TLCA Abilene.

We are here to help ease the transition of our military families and can assist you prior to your PCS, upon arrival, while at the installation, and when you prepare to depart for your next duty station. Our heart is to serve our military-connected students and families and provide information about our school and community.

We are committed to providing excellent educational opportunities to ensure all students served are able to reach their maximum learning potential. The Texas Leadership Public Schools (District) recognizes the importance of responding to the needs of our students and military families and we welcome feedback and suggestions, as we believe this is an important part of the continuous improvement process.

As the Campus Liaison Officer, Ms. Miller supports military students and oversees military programming at the Elementary Campus. She leads the Purple Star Action Team, which was developed to create an inclusive, student-led supportive environment for transitioning military families. As our campus liaison, she serves as a dedicated point of contact to support military-connected students and their families through every step of the school journey. They bridge the gap between home and campus by assisting with enrollment, records transfer, and navigation of community resources, while ensuring all students are accurately identified and coded in the state system. By coordinating specialized campus programs and identifying supports tailored to the unique challenges of high-mobility life, the liaison ensures no student falls through the cracks. To provide the best care possible, they also participate in annual professional training to stay current on the latest transition strategies and advocacy needs for military families.

Enrollment and Registration

Are you ready to REGISTER at TLCA Abilene? Our District's Registration Department is ready to serve YOU! To get started, contact our Registration Department at Enrollment@TexasLeadership.net or by giving us a call at (325) 653-3200 (press 4 for Administration).

What is needed for Registration?
Before we can complete the registration process, we will need the following:

Official Birth Certificate, or other official document that establishes student identity, such as passport or other legal document
Social Security Card, if student has one
Immunization Records
Proof of Residence or Military Orders if registering early
Parent/Guardian Photo ID
Transcript for Grades 8-12, or Grade Report for Grades K-7
Court Order, if any pertaining to student

Campus Transition Program

As part of helping our families become familiar with TLCA Abilene, we provide several resources to make your transition as smooth as possible. As a "Leader in Me" school, our students facilitate a Purple Star Leadership team as part of our Student Lighthouse Team. Our elementary students lead activities that specifically involve our military-connected students, creating instant inclusion in campus programs and events. We welcome your feedback and invite you to let us know how we can best serve your family.

What Can You Expect Upon Admission?:

An introduction to the school environment through an in-person, guided tour of your child’s campus
Welcome from our “Eagle Leaders” whose heart and goal is to support your student in getting to know TLCA Abilene. They are also here to be with your student at lunch, help them find their classes and make them feel a part of our awesome campus.
Being a part of a “Welcome Night” for our military families. We appreciate you and want you to know that you’ve found a family at TLCA.

Mrs. Johnston, originally from San Antonio, has been married to her husband, Dunstan, for 21 years. As a former military spouse, she possesses a unique perspective on the challenges of relocation, which allows her to connect deeply with students navigating change. She and Dunstan are the proud parents of two sons, Tyler (14) and Ryder (12). Their home is made even livelier by four dogs: Dyrks, Darla, Bailey, and Bentley—with Bailey holding the special distinction of being their first dog whose name doesn't start with a "D." Outside of her work as a Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Johnston enjoys coffee, flavored sparkling water, and staying active through yoga and exercise. She is truly happy to be a part of the TLCA team and is dedicated to the success of every student.

In addition, we are blessed be supported by the Military and Family Life Consultant (MFLC) program from Dyess Air Force Base who will be checking in with your student. The MFLC is here to help prevent family distress by providing education and information on family dynamics, parent education, available support services, the effects of stress, and positive coping mechanisms. Mrs. Darci Hodges, our SLO, provides families support to gain assistance in parent consent forms and communication about the program.

Military Interstate Children's Compact Commission (MIC3) Resources

What is the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission?

The Compact deals with the challenges of military children and their frequent relocations. It allows for uniform treatment as military children transfer between school districts in member states. Since 2009, the state of Texas, has adopted the framework through legislation, TEC 162.

The Compact and associated TEC 162 calls for the development of State Councils in each member state. Each State Council may be tasked with development of policy concerning operations and procedures of the Compact within the state.

Texas Leadership Proudly Supports "Month Of The Military Child!"

Each April, America honors the courage and recognizes the sacrifice of over 1.7 million children in military families nationwide. The life of military children has always had its challenges, foremost among them being frequent relocations. Every time families move, children have to make new friends, get used to new schools, and find new clubs and teams to join. A lot of military children take these changes in stride and some even thrive on them, but it is hard - kids have to rebuild their world every time and find their place in it. Month of the Military Child provides a powerful opportunity to raise awareness and build support to help these children meet the unique challenges they face! It is an opportunity to recognize military children and youth for their heroism, character, courage, sacrifices and continued resilience.

In celebration, we invite ALL of our students to participate in the National Purple UP! Day. Students come to school in a Purple Shirt and Jeans as a way of showing support!
